Did you know that if you write down your goals, you are more likely to be successful? Don’t just say them…write them down, plan for them and stay committed. Not only for yourself, but for the good of others. And now is the time.
It’s a new year. Time to start afresh. To throw mediocre and stagnation out the window and be inspired to be the best person you can possibly be.. Imagine how you would feel to have clarity and vision, not only for yourself, but also to be in the position where you can really make a difference to an issue that you are passionate about. In doing so you will contribute to a fairer world, and the act of ‘giving back’ will increase your own happiness. And the cycle continues.
I am passionate about social justice and working with people. My experience as an Aid Worker in some of the biggest emergencies the world has seen, has taught me the power of the human spirit. Its amazing the hope, resilience and strength that can be seen when everything is in be in tatters…literally.
Whether it be baring witness to a fisherman who has lost his entire family and business in the Tsunami in Sri Lanka – who continues to work towards rebuilding his life; or the young girl who has returned from being kidnapped and taken as a ‘wife’ for Joseph Kony’s Lords Resistance Army in Northern Uganda – who is now going back to school and assimilating back into her community.
Instead of being saddened by these stories – be inspired!
These experiences have solidified my thoughts about human potential. That everyone has the power to be the best person they can be, even in the face of adversity. I became a Humanitarian Coach for this reason. To work with people who want to make a difference – not only to themselves, but for others. I don’t think one is more important than another. Self awareness, insight and success in your own life is important to enable you to make a difference to others.
So in the start of a new year, I want you to take the opportunity to reflect.
- Who do I want to be in the world?
- What’s important to me personally and professionally?
- What am I passionate about?
- If I was to put fear to the side, what would I do?
- How can I be the best person I can possibly be…AND make the world a better place?
Then set some goals…
Make them strong, make them bold, make them inspiring. If they don’t scare you a little then maybe you aren’t challenging yourself enough.
Your personal goals could be around anything that will see you living a fuller, richer life……health, career, relationship, travel, self confidence or the way you live your life.
Your ‘Social Justice Goals” could be around anything you are passionate about….. your local community, poverty alleviation, animal rights or the environment.
Get your pen and paper and write down some ideas now.
By 31 December 2016 I will……………
Because 2016 is the year for you to not only thrive and prosper as an individual, but to contribute to a fairer world. Good luck!
